John is a skilled presenter, teacher and motivator. He uses story-telling, discussion, music and group interaction to promote awareness and change. John’s experience in the field of prevention and system change spans over 25 years. John’s unique style goes beyond merely consulting. He nourishes conversation, motivates action and above all, builds trust among groups, engaging them to work together. Recent Certifications and Affiliations: Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars, Art of Hosting, Technology of Participation (ToP) Trainer, Dakota Rising Entrepreneur Coaching
– Training: Intersection of Suicide and Substance Misuse- Audra Smith Hansen & Nancy Espeseth
Deaths by overdose and suicide continue to increase despite state and national efforts. Individuals with substance use disorders are at increased risk for suicide. Efforts to jointly address substance use and suicide are warranted. This training describes suicide risk among those who misuse substances and details multiple strategies for joint prevention, intervention, and treatment in the community and in various service settings.
– Training: Coalition Evaluation vs the Autopsy- Jim Hopla
Evaluation and monitoring of coalition activities is essential for successful coordination of community programs and sustained coalition efforts. Evaluation can help a coalition identify quick wins and successes that help to increase member commitment and build coalition credibility when recognized. Resources must be committed to evaluation from the very beginning to avoid performing an autopsy once programs cease.
– Training: Importance of Policy Work by Coalitions- Trainer TBD
We know that policy work is important for creating lasting change, but how do we navigate and impact a regulatory landscape that can be confusing and at times fraught with hidden pitfalls? This session will explore the prevention and regulatory landscape in order to better understand the system, analyze the current state of laws and regulations, and work toward activating their community for change.
Once you have completed the Registration/Scholarship Form, Zoom invites will be sent to you prior to the Conversation Cafe on the 9th as well as the 2-day Conference on the 12th and 13th (if you choose to attend virtually)
