McCall local Susan Reddick earned her degree in English at UC Berkeley and taught for over 30 years. Following her own advice to students – “write what you know” – she wrote a historical fiction novel about a place she knows well: Big Creek, Idaho.

Life of Mine tracks the journey of 24-year-old Caroline Scribner. Under the spell of gold fever, she travels to the remote gold fields of Thunder Mountain, Idaho in 1904. After a grueling journey, she struggles to adapt, not only in the rough mining town of Roosevelt, but also as a mail carrier for homesteads along nearby Big Creek.
