Artist biography of prolific visual story teller, Debra Bonsack:

From birth, Debrat was destined to be a visual artist. Born into an artist family, in a rural California agricultural community, Bonsack found an easel in her family portrait studio as a small child. Debra started painting early, completing her first oil painting by the age of seven. By high school Debra had become quite prolific as a painter. Her love of animals and the western community where she was raised evoked a large body of western work.

The artist has a fashion merchandising degree from Modesto Junior Collage with a concentration on visual merchandising and a bachelor of Art degree from Cal State Stanislaus University with a concentration in painting. BonSack has also obtained an art teaching credential from Chapman university and a specialized art education certificate from GOLDEN PAINTS. Bonsack has been a prolific visual story teller of her country environment as well as credentialed high school and college art teacher. She upheld this position for twenty five years while showing her work at festivals and exhibits across the western United States. An extremely energetic painter, Debra has exhibited in as many as thirty shows per year while teaching full time and running her own galleries. Bonhoff Gallery and BonSack Gallery are among these endeavors as well as her current Gallery, Roots & Relics in McCall Idaho. Debra currently teaches painting in this Gallery and studio.

Bonsack specializes in textural Acrylic. The medium is fluid like watercolor yet thick like palette knife oil painting. This unique technique has become her signature work. The artist has experienced great success from this self developed formula and it was not until recently has chosen to teach this to her students. In addition to the unique medium, Debra has added textural silk painting to her portfolio. These unique textile paintings are enhanced with free motion stitches, needle punched wool and silk roving and embroidery. The defining element between the two unique mediums is texture, BonSack’s signature art element.

Debra Bonsack has received countless ribbons, “best of shows” and “people’s choice” awards but continues to feel her prolific sales record and appreciative student satisfaction remains the best compliment to her career.
