The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge is an epic race. It captures heart and soul as you watch the teams navigate Idaho’s beautiful and challenging terrain.
The ISDC is in its third year running and has become one of the premier sled dog races in North America. The event draws World Class mushers from North America including Alaska and Canada to compete in a 300-mile race with 50,000 cumulative feet of climb through Idaho’s West Central Mountains. This year’s event also offers a 100-mile amateur race and a 37-mile junior race for new mushers ages 14 to 17.
The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge is a qualifier for both the famous Iditarod and the Yukon Quest. In 2019, the ISDC partnered with Oregon’s Eagle Cap Extreme and Montana’s Race to the Sky to form the Rocky Mountain Triple Crown. The Triple Crown allows the mushers a unique opportunity to qualify for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest in a single season. This event is nearly 1,000 miles cumulatively and promises to be become one of North America’s major sled dog events.
This year the ISDC is pleased to incorporate the Iditarod’s “Teacher on the Trail” program offering a workshop for local teachers and providing curriculum to bring the race into the classroom with activities and projects focused on STEM education. Over 10,000 teachers participate in the program.
Follow the race at 5 road accessible checkpoints and online day or night via GPS sled trackers.
