Fourth of July will look very familiar in McCall this year. Families celebrating this holiday together, ice cream cones and barbecues enjoyed by all, events for entertainment and a patriotic pride inherent throughout the community as we celebrate Independence Day. Fourth of July will also look a bit different in McCall this year. A firework show over Payette Lake will not be part of the celebration.
The decision to forgo the fireworks show this year was a tough one. It is disappointing to us as well – trust us, we feel it deeply. After a community survey, several meetings between the Chamber, City of McCall, law enforcement and health officials, we found that the limited public viewing area on Payette Lake simply did not meet safety protocols needed for large-scale events. Alternate locations to allow for better social distancing were researched, but none met both fire and crowd safety criteria.
We know this is a tough pill to swallow. We have wrestled with this decision for weeks and how this would impact our local businesses, residents and visitors. At the end of the day, hosting an event that was contrary to social distancing guidelines was not something we were comfortable doing.
Our Fourth of July Activity Guide is linked below. We are taking our 10 Days of Fourth of July Fun up a notch with a special issue of Visit McCall Magazine. This digital guide will include some of our favorite outdoor activities, special recipes from local chefs to create a magical backyard BBQ and a Shop Local section featuring our amazing local businesses.
In addition, we are creating a special Family Fun Pack FREE for anyone with young children to pick up. The pack will include goodies like patriotic beads, toys and glow sticks, scavenger hunt cards and maps of the community pathways. Pick yours up at the McCall Chamber office, area hotels or area fireworks stands while supplies last!
