Leashing

  • Dogs should be leashed through town and on trails. State Parks require dogs to be on-leash at all times.
  • Farther out you can let your dog off-leash, but keep them in sight and ensure they respond to voice commands.

Sheep Grazing & Wildlife

  • Keep wildlife in mind – bear, elk, moose, deer, and mountain lions will attack a dog if they feel threatened.
  • Be aware of sheep grazing in the National Forest during the summer and fall months. Keep dogs leashed in grazing areas at all times.

Pick up the Poop

  • No fancy way to say it. Just do it!

In the Summer

  • Give your pup a “leg-up” with a dog life jacket. These flotation devices help minimize fatigue and bring buoyancy to your water play sessions. Pick one up at McCall Pet Outfitters (200 Lenora Street).
  • The summer heat can catch up with pets quickly. Always pack fresh water for your dog and consider a cooling bandanna or wrap if you are headed out for an extended hike.
  • It is hard to see your dog once the sun sets. Fortunately, there are lots of great products to shine a little light on your dog so you don’t trip on him around the campfire. Attach a small LED light clip to your pet’s regular collar or switch it out altogether for a glowing safety collar.

In the Winter

  • Snow can be ruff (see what we did there?) on a dog’s paw pads. Booties are an option, although not every dog will love them. We also like products like Musher’s Secret to help keep dog feet feeling good in the cold!
